The Academic Assistants at the Federal Court of Justice
The highest Federal Courts employ legal assistants qualified to hold judicial office. Around 70 academic assistants are currently working at the Federal Court of Justice, normally three on each Civil Panel and two on each Criminal Panel, while two are assigned administrative tasks.
The academic assistants come from different federal states. Only persons with practical experience as judges or civil servants having additional scientific and above-average qualifications are eligible to be taken on. Expertise in specific areas of law is not required except for working on specialised Panels, such as the "patents Panel" (Civil Panel X).
